Both can be used with a Bowden filament delivery. But the BMG is smaller and uses a small pancake stepper so it can be used as a direct mount extruder, it is less expensive and you have more options (.9° for example) steppers for it. I recommend the BMG almost exclusively now that it has been out for a year and proven reliable.
SublimeLayershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07266175443539080935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1024848558336119865.post-29030640927646029162018-03-30T10:47:48.534-04:002018-03-30T10:47:48.534-04:00Also, do you still recommend the Bondtech QR? Is this also an issue with ABS? Also, I think you may have written you sentence backwards?

"Now, with KISS, I can slow advance down to 15mm/s and retract at 40mm/s and get excellent results with no jamming."

Did you mean slow down retract to 15 mm/s? I cannot remember where I found something about this, I am thinking about adding rails to my machine so I can use the Duet3D smart effector pcb that bolt right to the standard truck but I need to offset the belt path to do that.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10802463100587336211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1024848558336119865.post-52754854895278004902017-07-07T19:54:31.408-04:002017-07-07T19:54:31.408-04:00Well, parts are relevant! That said, I did convert my V3 to most of the important upgrades listed above. These are:

1) Duet Wifi and RepRapFirmware - seriously, if you want the best delta auto calibration and performance, this is the only option on the market today

2) 24V power supply

3) not listed above but I've moved all my deltas to .9° stepper motors

4) trick trucks and trick effector with the new Ball Cup ends

5) FSR bed leveling

6) Either an E3D V6 Hot End with Bondtech extruder and Bowden OR preferred either the Titan Aero or Bondtech BGM direct drive extruders - I have both and swap back and forth to test.SublimeLayershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07266175443539080935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1024848558336119865.post-9877145202293701832017-07-07T19:42:38.713-04:002017-07-07T19:42:38.713-04:00Is this post still relevant or do you have an upda...Is this post still relevant or do you have an updated 2017 version? The frame is not the limitation of a stock RMax. The fly fishing reels I print have to be very precise and this machine has no problem maintaining that. A more rigid frame might allow higher print speeds and I'm actually build a Max Metal myself to test, but I have to say, the best bang for the buck is the stock RMax with a few upgrades. The new skates and balljoint arms are quite nice and I would leave them (or put replacing them at the bottom of the list) and do the Duet upgrade first with FSR or IR probe.

RADDS does not have an ethernet port so the excellent Duet Web Control is not available. With all of the fantastic enhancements to DWC in the past month, it is a necessity in my opinion. It can now:

allow in-place editing of the config.g file - no more SD card swapping
allow in-place uploads of the latest RRF - no more Bosac!!!
ability to upload zip archives of lots of files (like new releases of DWC itself or packages of gcode files to print.

With these enhancements you no longer need a USB connection and you no longer need to remove the CF card from Duet.
SublimeLayershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07266175443539080935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1024848558336119865.post-77174585726451572852016-03-15T14:19:57.969-04:002016-03-15T14:19:57.969-04:00I own a Max v2, and have thought through all the u...I own a Max v2, and have thought through all the upgrades I want to implement as cash flow permits. Definitely the truck trucks, the Duet or RADDS/RRF, and the bondtech for sure (for higher speeds with the e3d volcano and larger bores).

However, just recently I've been wondering whether the upgrades I've mentioned make a whole lot of sense while still using the stock wooden frame, which can only be so rigid compared to an all metal frame, like the TL max metal. I've put some crossmembers on my max to combat torsion, bit it's still not as rigid as I'd imagine it should be for best performance and repeatability.

As far as mechanics go, do you think it makes sense to prioritize swapping the melamine out for a near perfectly rigid and true frame like the max metal before the other upgrades?

Thanks,

TylerHero of Truth and Wisdom of The Internet, and you're Welcome.https://www.blogger.com/profile/12949653627035166564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1024848558336119865.post-39472605721482687662016-01-06T08:57:40.302-05:002016-01-06T08:57:40.302-05:00Carl, I've posted my config.g for this machine...Carl, I've posted my config.g for this machine.SublimeLayershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07266175443539080935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1024848558336119865.post-25397853936349735872015-12-27T08:47:34.594-05:002015-12-27T08:47:34.594-05:00I'm away for the holidays until next week.
